Launched at the old Ferry crossing on the North Side. The approach is from the Egan exit on I-10. I paddled 7 miles with about 1/2 to the West and 1/2 to the East. Caught only 4 crappie and a nice catfish. All 4 crappie were caught to the East. The mosquitoes were outrageous in the morning.

The water was at the lowest stage and had decent clarity considering. I was surprised to see how the cut off bends had silted up. Couldn't find more than 7' of water in most of them while there was over 15' in the main bayou. The dredge years ago created a lot of spoil along the bayou and allowed the type of trees along the bank to mix with chicken trees and willow a lot.

The snag removal project that just completed in the area really must have hit this bayou hard as a big tree down was impossible to find except in the cutoffs where it is shallow relative to the channel.
