Went to Mermentau today (05/30/2012) to paddle/fish the river of the same name. I went by myself and got there at daybreak. Right away I caught a nice crappie, but he did a Houdini and wrapped around an underwater branch. After that it was nothing but small perch, bass, and crappie.

The river gage was at 1.8' and it's falling steadily with evaporation. There was a lot of dark green algae just below the surface and it was easily visible when stirred up with a paddle or passing outboard. All and all it was a real nice day, but not much fish and real funky green water.
